This last year we made some good progress with our Nieuport 24 aircraft. Students volunteered many hours this year as they did the year before. Since we started tracking the student’s hours (April 2007) we have now accumulated 1,378.8 hours to date with an average of 65.65 hours per mouth for the last 21 mouths and for every hour a student is working the Nieuport 24 a certified A&P is with them so realistically the total man-hours would be slightly higher.
Some of the items we succeeded on this last year are the landing gear, brakes, rudder pedals, bungee cord, firewall, top and side formers (not all installed), instrument panel, battery, electrical panel, seat, cables, flight control connections, hinge collars, steel straps, bushings, support plates, gun block, control stick installation, torque tube, ribs, cap strips, throttle, lower wing spar support (needs welding), aileron push tubes, carburetor heat, ignition modules, coils, and Powerplant installation. The students who worked this project last year overcame a lot of learning curves that they definitely will carry with them the rest of their careers.
